Hartite is a mineral that belongs to the sulfide group and is categorized under the pyrite group minerals. It is named after Hart Mountain in Oregon, United States, where it was initially discovered. The mineral is composed of iron and sulfur and has a chemical formula of Fe2S2.
In terms of its physical properties, hartite typically crystallizes in the cubic crystal system. It often forms as octahedral crystals, although it may also occur as dodecahedral or pyritohedral crystals. The color of hartite can vary and is typically yellow, golden-brown, or reddish-brown. It features a metallic luster and displays a subconchoidal fracture when broken.
