Etymology of H REFLEXES
The term "H reflex" is derived from the name of the first letter of the Greek alphabet, "alpha" or "α", which is pronounced as "a". In Greek, "α" is called "alpha", which comes from the Phoenician letter "aleph" meaning "ox". The alpha letter was chosen to name this reflex due to its association with the first motor neuron in the spinal cord, called the alpha motor neuron.
