Francis Joseph I was a historical figure and the longest-reigning Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary, who ruled from 1848 until his death in 1916. Born on August 18, 1830, he ascended the throne at the age of eighteen, following the abdication of his mentally ill uncle, Emperor Ferdinand I.
