Etymology of FIGGING
The word "figging" has a rather peculiar etymology. It derives from the Old English word "fician" which means "to fidget" or "to move restlessly". It was initially used to describe the act of inserting a peeled and carved ginger root into the anus of an individual. This practice was mainly seen as a form of punishment or a means of humiliation. Over time, "figging" began to be associated with various forms of sexual play and became a term in the realm of BDSM (Bondage, Discipline, Dominance, Submission, Sadism, and Masochism).
