Fanny Kemble was an English actress, writer, and abolitionist, born on November 27, 1809, in London, England. She came from a prominent theatrical family, with both her father and mother being actors. Kemble began her acting career at a young age, making her professional debut in 1829 at Covent Garden Theatre.
However, she is best known for her later works and activities outside of acting. In the 1830s, Kemble married an American plantation owner, Pierce Mease Butler, and moved to the United States.
