Diagnosis of encephalopathy involves a thorough medical history, physical examination, and often additional tests such as blood tests, brain imaging (MRI or CT scan), lumbar puncture, or electroencephalogram (EEG) to assess brain activity. Treatment for encephalopathy primarily focuses on managing the underlying cause, if known, and reducing symptoms to improve the patient's overall quality of life. This may involve medications to control seizures, manage symptoms, or address metabolic imbalances, as well as supportive measures such as physical or occupational therapy. In some cases, if the underlying cause cannot be treated or the condition is progressive, the focus may shift towards providing palliative care and symptom management.
