Dufrenite typically occurs as small, prismatic crystals that are often found as aggregates in various shades of green. It has a vitreous to oily luster and exhibits a translucent to opaque appearance. This mineral is known for its hardness, which ranges from 4.5 to 5 on the Mohs scale, making it relatively durable. Dufrenite also has a moderate density and usually leaves a light green streak when rubbed on a white porcelain plate.

Etymology of DUFRENITE
The word "Dufrenite" has its etymology rooted in the name of a French mineralogist named Léonard Dufrenoy (1780-1857). Dufrenoy was renowned for his contributions to the field of mineralogy and geology. In 1824, mineralogist François Sulpice Beudant named a new mineral species after Dufrenoy to honor his significant work. This mineral was subsequently named "Dufrenite" in tribute to Léonard Dufrenoy.
