Etymology of DIOPTRICS
The word "dioptrics" comes from the Greek word "dioptrikḗ" (διοπτρική), which is derived from the word "dióptrā" (διόπτρα), meaning "optic instrument" or "lens". The term was first used by the Greek mathematician and physicist Hero of Alexandria in the 1st century AD, who wrote a treatise called "Dioptrica", which dealt with the properties and applications of lenses.
