Colour vision is the ability to perceive different colors and distinguish various wavelengths of light as distinct hues. This ability is primarily dependent on the presence and proper functioning of specialized photoreceptor cells called cones, which are concentrated at the back of the eye in an area known as the retina.
The human eye contains three types of cones, each absorbing a specific range of wavelengths: short-wavelength cones (S-cones) primarily detect blue and violet, medium-wavelength cones (M-cones) are responsible for perceiving green and yellow, and long-wavelength cones (L-cones) are most sensitive to red and orange. These photoreceptor cells convert light signals into electrical impulses that are then transmitted to the brain via the optic nerve.
