The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is a security force established under an Act of Parliament in India. It is a premier Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) that operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The CISF was established in 1969 with the primary objective of providing security to various public sector industries and establishments in the country.
The CISF is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of a wide range of critical infrastructure, including airports, seaports, power plants, oil refineries, industrial complexes, and government buildings. Its role extends beyond traditional law enforcement duties and incorporates a strong emphasis on anti-sabotage measures, disaster management, and protection against terrorist attacks.
The force consists of highly trained personnel, including civil engineers, electrical engineers, firemen, and paramedics. CISF personnel undergo rigorous training in specialized fields like aviation security, bomb detection and disposal, disaster management, and VIP security. They are equipped with modern weapons, surveillance systems, and advanced security technologies to effectively tackle any security threat or emergency situation.
In addition to its core role of providing security to industrial installations, the CISF also assists state police and paramilitary forces in maintaining law and order, tackling insurgency, and combating terrorism when required. The force operates at the national level and has played a significant role in safeguarding India's critical infrastructure against emerging security challenges.
