Charlie Manuel is an American former professional baseball player and manager. Born on January 4, 1944, in Northfork, West Virginia, he is best known for his successful tenure as the manager of the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball (MLB).
As a player, Manuel was primarily an outfielder and first baseman in the minor leagues and had a short-lived career in the major leagues, appearing in parts of six seasons between 1969 and 1975. However, it was his managerial success that solidified his place in baseball history.
