These beetles are commonly found infesting damp and decaying organic materials, particularly in dark and humid environments such as cellars, basements, and crawl spaces.
The cellar beetle has a distinct appearance characterized by its small size, ranging from 2 to 5 mm in length, and an elongated oval-shaped body. It typically has a dark brown or black color with fine hairs covering its exoskeleton. One notable feature of this insect is its ability to fly utilizing fully functional wings, allowing it to easily move from one location to another.
