Castlemans tumor, also known as Castleman disease or angiofollicular lymph node hyperplasia, is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder characterized by abnormal growth of lymphatic tissue. It was first described by pathologist Benjamin Castleman in the 1950s, hence its name.
This tumor typically occurs in the lymph nodes, but it can also affect other organs such as the spleen, liver, and lungs. Castlemans tumor is classified into two main types: unicentric and multicentric. Unicentric Castleman disease manifests as a single enlarged lymph node or a localized cluster of lymph nodes, while multicentric Castleman disease involves multiple lymph nodes and systemic symptoms.
The causes of Castlemans tumor remain unknown, although researchers suggest that it may be associated with the dysregulation of the immune system, chronic inflammation, or viral infections. Symptoms vary depending on the type and location of the tumor but may include fatigue, fever, night sweats, enlarged lymph nodes, weight loss, and organ dysfunction.

Treatment options include surgical resection, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and immunotherapy, depending on the extent and type of the tumor.
