The most common bacteria responsible for these types of infections include Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Haemophilus influenzae. Bacterial ocular infections can be transmitted through direct contact with contaminated hands, surfaces, or objects, or by sharing personal items such as towels or eye makeup.
Antibiotic eye drops or ointments are often prescribed for treating bacterial ocular infections. Depending on the severity of the infection, treatment may last for a few days or up to several weeks. It is important to complete the full course of the prescribed antibiotics to ensure complete eradication of the infection and to prevent its recurrence. In some cases, warm compresses may also be recommended to soothe the eyes and reduce discomfort.
