Auriculin B is a peptide hormone that is derived from the kidney and plays a vital role in regulating fluid and electrolyte balance in the body. It is a member of the natriuretic peptide family, which also includes atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP).
The primary function of Auriculin B is to increase the excretion of sodium and water, thereby promoting diuresis and reducing blood volume and pressure. It achieves this by acting on specific receptors in the kidneys, known as natriuretic peptide receptors, which are found in various regions involved in sodium and water reabsorption.
The release of Auriculin B is stimulated by an increase in blood volume and pressure, as well as by the activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system.
