Atloaxoid refers to a specific anatomical structure located at the junction of the atlas and axis vertebrae in the vertebral column of humans and certain other mammals. More specifically, it denotes the ligamentous connection present between the atlas and axis vertebrae. The atlas is the first cervical vertebra, also known as C1, which lies at the very top of the vertebral column, connecting the skull to the spine. The axis, on the other hand, is the second cervical vertebra, known as C2, that articulates with the atlas and allows for rotation and pivotal movement of the head.
The atloaxoid is a crucial component that stabilizes and supports the atlas and axis vertebrae, ensuring the smooth functioning of the cervical spine.
