The Asian horseshoe crab, scientifically known as Tachypleus tridentatus, is a marine arthropod belonging to the family Limulidae. It is a species native to the coastal areas of Southeast Asia, including India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia. This unique creature is renowned for its distinctive horseshoe-shaped carapace that covers its body, and it is often referred to as the "Asian king crab" or "mangrove horseshoe crab."
Growing up to 60 centimeters (24 inches) in length, the Asian horseshoe crab possesses a hard exoskeleton, which acts as protection against predators and environmental hazards. It has compound eyes and a mouth located beneath its body, from which it feeds on small invertebrates and detritus found on the ocean floor. Additionally, this species has gills for respiration and numerous small legs that aid in locomotion.
