The mineral derives its name from its discovery in 1945 by geologist Henri Gorceix, who first identified the mineral in the Poços de Caldas alkaline complex in Brazil. Since then, arsenogorceixite has been identified in other locations worldwide, including Germany, Namibia, and the United States.
