The word "archosyrinx" is derived from two Greek words: "archos", meaning leader or chief, and "syrinx", meaning pipe or tube. In Greek mythology, Syrinx was a nymph who was pursued by the god Pan. To escape his advances, she asked the gods to transform her into reeds, which they granted. Pan, in his grief, crafted musical instruments from the reeds, one of which became known as the "syrinx" or "panpipes".
