Apellatio is a Latin term that originated from the verb "appello", meaning "to address" or "to call upon". It refers to a legal process or procedure in ancient Roman law and is typically associated with appeals made to a higher authority or court.
In the Roman legal system, an individual had the right to appeal a decision made by a lower court to a higher court or authority. This process provided an avenue for individuals to seek a review and potential reversal of a judgment they believed to be unjust or erroneous. The party appealing a decision was known as the "appellant", while the opposing party was referred to as the "appellee".
