Alfred Habdank Skarbek Korzybski (1879-1950) was a Polish-American philosopher, engineer, and semanticist, best known as the creator of the theory of General Semantics.
General Semantics is a multidisciplinary approach to understanding how language and symbols shape our perception and behavior. Korzybski argued that human beings do not directly experience the objective reality but interact with the world through their nervous systems, which are influenced by language and other forms of symbolization.
