Aimak, also spelled as Aimaq, refers to an ethnic group predominantly residing in Afghanistan. The term "Aimak" is derived from the Mongolian word "Ayimag," meaning "chief." This ethnic group primarily inhabits the central and northwestern regions of Afghanistan, particularly in the provinces of Herat, Ghor, and Badghis.
The Aimak people are known for their nomadic and semi-nomadic lifestyle, often engaging in animal husbandry, particularly raising sheep, goats, and horses. They trace their origins back to various ethnic groups, including Turkic, Mongol, and Persian backgrounds, resulting in a diverse and unique cultural identity.
