It possesses hook-like mouthparts that it uses to attach itself to the intestinal wall, where it feeds on the host's blood.
The name "Agchylostoma" is derived from the Greek words "ankylos" meaning "hooked" and "stoma" meaning "mouth," referencing the worm's characteristic mouth structure. The infection caused by Agchylostoma is called agchylostomiasis.
Agchylostoma infection is primarily transmitted through contact with contaminated soil or feces, usually in areas with poor sanitation or where humans live in close proximity to animals. The larvae of the worm can penetrate the skin, especially through bare feet, and migrate to the intestines, where they mature and reproduce.
