Acnitis is a medical condition characterized by the inflammation of hair follicles. It is pronounced /ækˈnaɪtɪs/ (ack-NY-tis) with the stress on the second syllable. The first syllable is pronounced as in "act" and the second syllable is pronounced as in "night". The suffix "-itis" indicates inflammation, as in "arthritis" or "bronchitis". Acnitis is commonly treated with antibiotics and topical medications. Proper hygiene and avoiding tight clothing can also help prevent the condition.
